The City of Helsinki has announced the payment of a one-time, additional late payment to employees affected by payroll errors.

“Employees will also be compensated for economic losses caused by pay issues,” the city’s press release said.

The problems with the City of Helsinki’s payroll system arose in April, when a newly installed system experienced several technical issues.

This led to many employees being underpaid or not paid at all during the late spring and summer months.

In July, the Tehy nurses’ union filed a criminal complaint with the police for non-payment of salaries to health workers.

“Several hundred employees have not received their full pay for several pay periods,” said the union’s head of legal services, Kari Tiainensaid after Tehy filed his police report.

In August, the Union Federation of Public and Private Sector Employees (Jyty) called on the City to start consulting with its own professionals to reform the payment system as problems persisted.

“The city of Helsinki is throwing millions of euros at Deloitte, of which, according to the press, more than two million euros of services have been bought with subsidies since March. At the same time, however, Helsinki is repeating a mistake that “She’s done it before by continuing to ignore the views of her professionals – the staff whose salaries are being withheld – on how the change process should be done. It’s baffling,” the Jyty chairman said. . Jonna Voima said in a union press release at the time.

Even so, some 115 employees did not receive their pay on Aug. 31 while another 3,947 city employees were underpaid, according to the city’s own records.

“The payroll and personnel information system previously used by the city dates back to the 1980s, and its technical support ends at the end of the year, said Friday’s press release, adding that other problems could arise in the fall.
